Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

Our eighth graders and first graders partnered in the church during our whole school Examen this week.

Stations of the Cross: As we quiet ourselves in preparation for Holy Week, we invite our families to join us for Stations of the Cross led by our 7th grade class on Good Friday, April 18 at 10:45 AM in the gym. Students will bring back their filled rice boxes on Wednesday to bring to the Stations of the Cross. The rice box donations will be split between Our Giving Table, a local nonprofit serving families suffering from food and shelter security and purchasing food for Transition Projects Lunches.

Serving, Learning, Growing: Our amazing students are leaping through learning this spring. Our preschoolers are developing their artistic expression while learning to cut with scissors in unique collages. The kindergarteners made Lenten promises and acted out Palm Sunday. Our first graders are keeping our campus litter-free as their service work. The first graders learned the preamble of our United States Constitution complete with hand gestures, and they shared their performance of the preamble with the 5th graders this week as the 5th graders study United States history. The second graders are creating Holy Week pop-up books leading up to Easter. The third graders are studying about bridges in Portland. The fourth graders took on preparing the Transition Lunches this week. The seventh graders composed beautiful Lenten poems. As the days grow longer, may our students’ curiosity and thirst for knowledge deepen.

School Forks: Thank you for continuing to look around at home to return any cafeteria forks that may have made their way into your home collection.

Immunization: Way to go, Gator families! Every school in Oregon collects and submits their vaccination rates to their local health department which then becomes public record. Our school’s immunization record is impressive and ahead of the general county results. Take a look at these gorgeous graphs.

Teacher Appreciation: During the month of May, we will again celebrate our hard-working, dedicated, loving teachers! If you wish to contribute to funding the special treats and meals for our staff in May, please feel free to do so through this link: ttps://sispdx.ejoinme.org/teacherappreciation

Baptism Opportunity in May: In recent years, ****we have found that there are some students who are interested in participating in the Sacramental preparation classes, but have not yet been baptized. We imagine this might be especially true of our 5-7 year old students now, since they were small when the world was experiencing a pandemic. For that reason, we are offering a special time for our Kindergarten through Second Grade students to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism together at our school Mass on Wednesday, May 21st. If you are interested in participating in this baptism with your child, please fill out and return the baptism registration form by April 25th. Please contact Patty Frangipani ([email protected]) with any questions. There will be a mandatory baptism preparation class for parents and for students on Sunday, May 18th at 9AM in the parish office. Thank you for entrusting St. Ignatius with the education and spiritual growth of your child.  Baptism Registration 2025[28] (1).pdf

Easter Egg Hunt: Join in on the fun of the Easter Egg Hunt after the 10:30 AM Mass on Easter Sunday. Volunteers are needed. Check out this flyer with a volunteer link.

School Advisory Council (SAC):  Please consider joining the School Advisory Committee. St. Ignatius School's School Advisory Committee (SAC) is looking for four new members to serve a 3-year term, beginning in September 2025. If you are looking for a meaningful way to connect more deeply with St. Ignatius School or are interested in contributing to the school through strategic planning, mission effectiveness, public relations, financial planning, and policy development, please consider joining the School Advisory Committee.  If you have questions or are interested in nominating yourself or someone else, please fill out this form and consider talking with one of our current SAC representatives: Sarah Maher (Chair), Mike Pettinger (co-chair), Michael Miller, Miranda Hacherl, Sarah Trester, Margaret Hoecker-Gaynor, Amanda Williams, Amy Rozzelle, Derrick Lau, or Eben Dickinson.  Thank you for thoughtfully considering this important and valuable contribution to our school community.

May we take time to place our trust in God as we prepare to enter Holy Week. “So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7.

Peace be with you,

Carol Pausz

Principal
