Students learn best when they are consistently at school. We ask all parents to make a commitment to regular and punctual school attendance in order to support strong academic gains for their children. When possible, please schedule appointments after school or on days when there is no school.
Regular Attendance
Regular attendance is required of all students in order to make strong academic progress, be connected to the community, and engage with the full experience of the school.
- Reporting Process: Parents must notify the school office by 9:00 AM, either by phone or written note, if their child will be tardy or absent that day.
- Parents must notify the school office by 9:00 AM, either by phone or written note, if their child will be leaving school early for an appointment. Students must be signed out in the school office. Students returning the same day must be signed in at the office if they return during the school day.
- Students who are absent or tardy, including travel, more than 10% in a trimester will be considered for academic probation, with a plan made with the principal, homeroom teacher, and family. Students on academic probation may risk ending their enrollment or other course of appropriate action.
Tardiness
Excessive tardiness can have a detrimental effect on a child's education, as students often miss valuable opening instructions and may not have time to settle into the school day.
- Students who are not in the classroom by the 8:30 AM (8:25 AM for grades 6-8) start of the day will be marked tardy and must obtain a late slip from the office.
- Students arriving after 8:45 AM must be signed in at the office.
- In the case of excessive tardiness, teachers will intervene with parents. For persistent problems, a parents' written commitment to arrive on time may be requested by the principal.
Excused Absences
The following are considered excused absences: student illness, medical issues, medical or dental appointments, family emergency, funerals, court appearances, and other reasons with pre-arranged administrative approval.
Illness at home
- Notify the school office by 9:00 AM.
- Parents of students who are absent two days or more may request to pick up homework from the teacher.
During the school day
When a student becomes ill during the school day:
- The school office will call parent(s) or emergency contact(s) using the phone numbers provided on the family's emergency form. It is the parents' responsibility to keep this information current.
- Parents are expected to pick up the child as soon as possible.
