We, the community of St. Ignatius School, in the tradition of Mother Marie Rose and St. Ignatius of Loyola, provide a faith-centered Catholic education guiding God’s children toward building a just and compassionate world.
Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon
We enjoyed celebrating Catholic Schools Week in a variety of ways all week long! On Wednesday, we attended our school Mass in Family Groups. Two of our Family Groups led us through the Mass celebrating our patron saint, St. Ignatius and the good work of Catholic schools. Thank you to all of our families for choosing St. Ignatius School for your child(ren).
Serving, Learning, Growing: Our students continue to impress their teachers with an enthusiasm for learning. Our kindergarten students have been using ‘subtraction monsters’ made from tissue boxes to learn about subtraction. The kindergartners brought in food for their St. Vincent DePaul service partner this week. The kindergarten students also wrote and mailed their families a thank you note for sending them to St. Ignatius School. Our first graders have created wonderful snowmen and practiced adding with ten frames. Our kindergarten and first grade students collaborated on creating a Catholic Schools Week poster as we celebrated our school this week. The second graders have been busy creating collages of what they love about St. Ignatius School. The third graders made the Transition Projects lunches this week and have been learning all about the sun. In fourth grade, students are working on A,B,C books about Oregon’s Interior Valley cities. The fifth graders have been learning about important historical figures during the Revolutionary War period of history. The middle schools have filled the hallways with various winter art creations from snowmen to penguins plus St. Brigid crosses.
Arrival Reminder: We need your help in the mornings. Students may not arrive onto campus before 8:10 AM. We need parents to help supervise students between 8:10-8:20 AM, when the school doors open. Students may not run around outside or on the turf before school. Students may not play on any of the play structures, including the preschool play area, before school. We are a small staff working hard to prepare for a great learning day in those minutes before school begins. Please help us by managing your child before the school bell rings. Thank you!
Inclement Weather: Generally align with PPS when deciding school closures due to inclement weather, however we understand our families travel from outlying areas. Please use your best judgement in deciding if you can travel safely from your home to school. We utilize the FlashAlert system to inform local media outlets of closures due to weather. The first two missed days due to inclement weather are considered part of our usual calendar planning. However, should we miss more than two school days, teachers will push out digital assignments for learning from home, so those additional days may be considered school days and not added onto the end of the school year. For grades K-8, your classroom/homeroom teacher will email the digital learning directions and assignments.
Optional Conference Day: Tuesday, February 18th is a ‘no school’ day for optional parent-teacher conferences. The purpose for these conferences are to allow time for teachers to meet with multiple families in one day to strategize academic and social-emotional success strategies for students throughout the second half of the year. Some students are already cruising along and won’t need a conference at this time.
The hard copy letter for scheduling a conference is coming home with your child this week. The teacher or the parent may request a conference for this optional conference day. All forms need to be returned, even if a conference is not requested by either the teacher or parent. Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education.
Aspire, Believe, Celebrate: Our ***Aspire, Believe, Celebrate school auction*** will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025 during Mardi Gras season. This is the last big event of the year to get those volunteer hours. Sign up to volunteer in Track It Forward. You can ***purchase early bird admission expires this weekend! February 3rd admission tickets will be a flat rate of $100 per person***. Join us for a fun-filled evening of games and appetizers plus silent and live auctions with a dinner buffet and complimentary wine for your table. Spread the word to your friends and family to buy raffle tickets. If your family sells three raffle tickets, each student in your family will receive a Special Dress Pass! Classes that make 90% of their raffle ticket selling goal will earn a sundae-sorbet party! Only 500 raffle tickets are sold and the prize is $3,000!
As we fly on into February, may we find ways to follow our hearts living by the teachings of Christ. “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:7.
Peace be with you,
Carol Pausz
Principal
