We, the community of St. Ignatius School, in the tradition of Mother Marie Rose and St. Ignatius of Loyola, provide a faith-centered Catholic education guiding God’s children toward building a just and compassionate world.
Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon
We celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation this week. We are blessed to have four Jesuit priests to assist the students in preparing their hearts for Easter.
On Wednesday, the students met in Family Groups to celebrate St. Patrick together.
Serving, Learning, Growing: We kicked off the week celebrating St. Patrick. A few leprechauns came through our school but none of them were caught by our preschool and kindergarten leprechaun traps. The first graders posted beautiful hand drawn portraits of St. Patrick in our school hallways. Our kindergarten and first grade classes participated in a special time learning about the parts of Mass at the Loyola chapel this week. Our kindergarten class continues to build pre-reading skills with word dominoes too. The third graders have been learning division patterns. The seventh graders made collages showing how they see God in all things. The 7th graders created geometric art as well. Our 8th graders are traveling the Examen road this Lenten season. Last Friday was Pi Day, and our middle schoolers spent their elective class enjoying Pi Day math activities. Our middle school mural making elective created a shamrock Trinity poster for our hallway. All week long we have heard facts about Neurodiverse brains during this International Neurodiversity Week. Our students had so much fun this week learning together!
Jesuit Math Enrichment: Jesuit High School offers spring math enrichment classes through the third trimester for students in 5th-8th grade. For those students with a love for math, this is a great opportunity for deeper learning with other math-minded students. The flyers can be found below with other summer enrichment opportunities.
OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books):Congratulations to our 6th grade OBOB team “The Bookshelf Bandits” for making it into the top bracket in the state competition. Competing against other teams with older teammates from much larger schools is no small feat. We are so proud of these 6th grade students: Elizabeth, Heleyna, William C. and Lena, for showing their Eager Minds, Passionate Hearts, Enthusiastic Spirits, and Brilliant Futures through this academic competition.
Lenten Whole School Service: In this Jubilee year of hope, each month our whole parish will support a monthly Catholic social justice theme. For the month of March, both our school and St. Ignatius Church will ‘clothe the needy’ in our community. For the month of March, students may bring in new or gently used warm clothing- hats, gloves, scarves, long sleeve shirts, and long pants. Clothing items brought in by students will be donated to Our Giving Table, a local nonprofit serving families suffering from food and shelter security. Clothing items may be brought in through Friday, April 4th.
Report Cards: Please login to SchoolSpeak and view your child’s report card for trimester two. If you have any difficulty accessing your child’s report card, please contact our school office for assistance. Thank you for all of the ways you support your child’s learning at home. We are grateful for you!
St. Ignatius School Referral Benefit: As many of you know, ‘word of mouth’ is how most families come to join our inclusive, welcoming community. We would like to extend an invitation to our current families to bring another family into our community. If you refer a new family that enrolls and attends our school next year, your family will receive a $1,000 tuition credit! Families entering kindergarten through 8th grade are eligible. Simply submit this ***form ***to let us know which family you referred. The $1,000 credit will be taken off tuition in early November after the referred family has joined our school community. Registration paperwork for the 2025-2026 school year has been emailed to families. Registration paperwork is due to the school office via email or hard copy by Friday, April 4th.
Spring Cleaning: Please keep an eye out for forks that have traveled into your home from our cafeteria via your students. We often let students ‘borrow’ a fork with the direction to put it in the kitchen sink at the end of lunch. However, we are now completely out of forks to loan. Please check your drawers and send those errant forks back in, so we can continue to loan them to students in need. Thank you!
In our Lenten journey, may we find ways to reflect, work for the common good, and encounter God in new ways. In Lamentations, chapter 3 verses 22-23, we hear “The LORD’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent; They are renewed each morning—great is your faithfulness!
Peace be with you,
Carol Pausz
Principal
