Greetings St. Ignatius Families,

Family Groups: This week, we met in Family Groups to create paper candles in memory of loved ones who have passed. Each candle will be a symbol of light, love, and remembrance. These handmade candles will be displayed as part of a beautiful Ofrenda in our school entry next week, celebrating the lives of those who continue to inspire and guide us.

Day of the Dead: We will celebrate our loved ones who have passed through the celebration of Dia de Los Muertos by creating a school wide Ofrenda where students can add pictures of family members, friends, and pets that have passed. This is a celebration for the remembrance of loved ones who are no longer with us, similar to a celebration of life. The Ofrenda will be set up for viewing October 27 - October 31 in the school entry display cases. If your student would like to participate, please send them to school with a printed photo ( 4x6 or 3x5) of a loved one who has passed. If you would like the photo back, please make sure to write the name and class room of your student on the back. No frames please. We look forward to celebrating Dia de Los Muertos and All Saints Day with you next week.

Pumpkin Patch: Our first and eighth grade students continued a longstanding tradition of visiting the pumpkin patch together. The weather was a bit rainy this year at Plumper Pumpkin Patch, but the students all enjoyed their time together tromping around in rain boots and coats to find the perfect pumpkin. After they returned from their adventure, they decorated their pumpkins together too!

Serving, Learning, & Growing: Our students are getting back in the swing of learning this week after days off for parent-teacher conferences. Our preschoolers have been busy painting leaves for the bulletin board. The kindergarteners are working on their phonemic awareness as they study letter sounds. The first graders have been busy serving our campus through stewardship and leading Masses. Our second graders have been busy this week exploring the piano in music and building birdfeeders in science. Our third graders have created beautiful haunted house art. In fourth grade, the students are expanding their knowledge of prefixes and suffixes in small group work. Fifth graders enjoyed reading with the first graders this week. In sixth grade math the students have finished up learning about ratios and proportions. The seventh graders explored how rivers shape the Earth through a hands-on stream lab allowing students to witness erosion and deposition in action. The eighth graders have been exploring algebraic expressions and functions in math. What active learners are students are becoming!

All Saints Mass: Our first and sixth graders will partner together to lead our All Saints School Mass next Wednesday, October 29th at 1:10 PM in our church. All Saints Day celebrates all of the saints in heaven, so we may look to their example of how to live our faith. Throughout November, students are learning about saints and the virtues they modeled. Each week, morning announcements highlight saints who reflect the virtues we’re focusing on in class. So far, we’ve explored:

Through their lives, our students see how the saints continue to inspire us today.

Halloween Parade: Next Friday, we will host a Halloween Parade in our gym at 8:40 AM, right after our morning announcements. All families are welcome to join in this festive tradition where students are able to show off their costumes by parading around an inner circle in the gym. We will open the wall separating the cafeteria and gym space to allow people to spread out a bit. We need your help with monitoring your child’s costume. We ask for no masks, no frightening or gory make-up, and no pretend weapons of any kind, all clothing must be appropriate for school in fit and length. What fun it will be to see everyone’s costume!

School Handbook Update: As cold and flu season will soon be upon us, we wish to remind families we followed the Oregon Health Department and Oregon Department of Education’s guidance on when to keep students home for illness. We will be adding the handy chart below to our School Handbook:

Welcome Another Staff Member: We wish to welcome Ryan Harvey to our St. Ignatius Staff as a part-time instructional assistant, predominately in 4th grade with some time spent in the preschool classroom too. Mr. Harvey is considering returning to school for a Masters in Education to become a teacher in the future. We are blessed to have found an experienced person passionate about assisting students of all ages in their learning journey!

Under One Roof: Help Us Reach Our Goal! Support the Under One Roof Capital Campaign

At St. Ignatius, our mission is to build lives, strengthen faith, and foster a community rooted in love, justice, and compassion. For generations, Dillon Hall has been at the heart of that mission—hosting games, celebrations, and meaningful moments for our students and families.

Now, we need your help to preserve and strengthen this beloved space.
