While recognizing the educational advantages of some types of travel, we ask parents to carefully consider the pros and cons of scheduling family vacations while school is in session. There is no substitute for being in school, and it is not possible to repeat the same experience if your child is not present. St. Ignatius School has vacation time worked into its annual schedule. School families are expected to respect classroom instructional days and make use of the scheduled breaks for vacation.
In the event that more than three days of school time will be used for family travel, parents have the responsibility of contacting the principal first, and then letting the teachers know at least two weeks in advance of the dates of the student's absence.
Please be advised that even when we know ahead of time that a child will be gone from school, it is impossible to recreate the entire classroom day, the assignments, and the activities. Your child will miss significant learning activities while gone. Please work with the teachers to find out what the student can do either before departing or when returning to address the missed learning opportunities.
Please avoid scheduling family travel during Star testing time. Check the calendar for these dates. It is very important for the students to be in school during that time unless they are ill or there's a family emergency.
